Revealed! Why Nnamdi Kanu was missing at parent’s burial in Abia

Tongues have kept wagging while many were surprise at the absence of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, during the burial ceremony of his parents – Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and Lolo Sally Kanu which held at Afaraukwu community, Umuahia North local government area of Abia state.

Many, especially those from his community expected him back home to witness the burial of his late parent, later on, there was insinuation amidst fear that he could be arrested by security agents if he steps into Nigeria after he was declared wanted by the federal government sometimes ago.

Our correspondent reports that in his absence, the ceremony was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere from start to finish.

Blueprint correspondent also observed that most shops within Afaraukwu and Umuahia shut down in honour of the deceased.

Late Eze Kanu was aged 85 while his wife, Ugoeze Sally Kanu died at 67.

As early as 1100 am, the remains of the Traditional ruler and the wife were brought to the Umuahia North local government area headquarters where the Council and his fellow traditional rulers Council received them and paid their last respect.

Thereafter, their bodies proceeded to the village square where the kinsmen received their remains before taking them for lying in state at the Kings Palace.

There was also funeral service at st Andrews Anglican Church, Afaraukwu where funeral service before interment finally took place.

Speaking during the church service, the Bishop of Anglican church, Diocese of Umuahia, Rt Reverend Geoffrey Obijuru Ibeabuchi said that death was inevitable for all mortals.

Among dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Senate minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who hails from Abia South, Mr Peter Obi, Vice Presidential candidate of PDP in 2019 election, Senator Victor Umeh, former National Chairman of Apga among others.
