Review education curriculum, include enterpreneurship devt – YES

The Youth Empowerment Solutions (YES) has called for a review of our education curriculum to include entrepreneurship development in commemoration of the International Youth Day.

The Executive Director, Mr Oche Precious Edeh in a press statement said occasions like this, provide opportunities for us to reminisce on the array of issues that youths all over the world are confronted with, especially on the continent of Africa and with particular reference to our nation, Nigeria.

According to him, it is a common knowledge that education plays a very important role in the development of society. In fact, it is the foundation and bedrock of any society.

He said any nation that must thrive economically, socially and politically, must make education of its citizens, a topmost priority.

He said Education makes us better decision makers and equips us with what is needed to actualize our dreams as well as contribute meaningfully to societal development.

“However, it is a sad reflection of the Nigerian society, that education in this country has suffered a major setback.

“According to a UNICEF report, one in every five out-of-school children is in Nigeria. Report also has it that Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world.

“Not too long ago, the Federal Ministry of education noted that the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria is now 10.2 million.

“Although this sounds like good news, given the fact that a survey by UBEC, had indicated a rise in the population of out-of-school children from 10.5 miliion (according to UNICEF) to 13.2 million.

“There is no gainsaying however that more needs to be done for the advancement of education in Nigeria,” he said .
