#RevolutionNow: Police brutalise protesters, Septuagenarian hawker, Journalist in Osun

Policemen men on Monday, goes tough with protesters of RevolutionNow in Osogbo, Osun state, as a septuagenarian fufu seller woman, Sariyu Akanmu, became victim of the angry policemen.


The protesters had gathered in front of NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel at Olaiya after addressing news men when the operatives of the Director of State Security, DSS, warned them not to go to the street.


As the protesters were appealing to the DSS, policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Dugbe police station, were drawn to the scene.


The continuous anti-government song of the protesters apparently infuriated the policemen who immediately teargas them.


A 72-year-old woman who was hawking fufu, sympathized with the protesters to also express her suffering. The old woman was dragged by a woman police and beaten up.


The Correspondent of News Direct, Sunday Oguntuyi, who approached the police to plead for the old woman was also harassed as the police sprayed teargas on his eyes and slapped him.


The leader of the group, Comrade Olawale Adebayo and 9 others were brutalised and whisked away by the DSS.


Addressing the news men earlier, the protesters said the arrest of Omoyele Sowore would not stop the agitation.


According to the protesters, Sowore is just one person out of millions of oppressed Nigerians. They said, “every Nigerians who are victim of oppression should join the revolution.
