Rights commission seeks NYSC partnership on youth development

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought the collaboration of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on the development of youths in the country.

Executive Secretary of the commission, Tony Ojukwu said, “The national youth service is a paramount agency for every educated Nigerian, especially those in public offices because if not for that purpose, they won’t have achieved such opportunities.”

He made the statement during a courtesy visit to the office of the director general, NYSC Tuesday, in Abuja.

He said, “As provided by the constitution, every Nigerian citizen has the right to live in any part of the country, own property, establish self, and raise a family. You will agree with me that one of the essential elements of being a nation is the ability of the citizen to integrate in any part of the country where they wish to run their lives.

“The NYSC is one fighting instrument to achieve this and make our youth to start a life by making them to serve their fatherland. One of the contributions of the NYSC is the ability of our youths to develop the republic of Nigeria,” he stated.

He stated further that, “We all need to secure human rights work to seal up partnership and begin to leverage on the present situation. We secure your indulgence to do more, seeking your awareness of what we do, and collaboration of partnership.

In response, the NYSC Director General, Brig Gen. Ibrahim Shuaibu assured him and his delegates of their full support in the area of human rights and developing the nation.

“Our doors are always opened to assist everyone in line with the principles in the constitution. Whenever I’m opportune to speak with my corps members, I never knew I would become the director general NYSC and that wherever they find themselves they should be of good behaviour and the sky will be their limits. Someday, some persons amongst them will end up as important personnel in the country like we all are seated here in this pedestrian,” he stated.
