Rise in gender-based violence worries NYSC DG

Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has expressed concerns on the rate of gender-based violence described as ‘violation of human rights’.

He said there was the need for more sensitisation on the dangers GBV in order to curb further occurrences.

The NYSC DG spoke Monday when the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) awarded an FCT corps member, Mr Gabriel Ajibola, who won its Gender Based Violence (GBV) social media creative contest with N50,000 worth of gift voucher.

He assured the WFD of NYSC’s support to eradicate the menace from the society, adding that both men and women should not be violated.

The DG further lauded the corps members’ performance and charged all youths to “be in their best in whatever they are doing.”  He also urged them to channel their potentials more productively to ensure the development of the country.

“There is always reward for hard work. You need to stand out and stand tall.  Don’t just follow the crowd but seize every given opportunity to showcase your talent. As youths of this country, you need to maintain your integrity, be truthful and honest in all your endeavours,” he urged.

Ibrahim also said the NYSC would continue to collaborate with existing stakeholders on voter’s education, saying the collaboration between INEC and NYSC had deepened the democratic process.
