The Area Coordinator National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) South South Area office, Mr. Omotade Ayodele, has praised Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for his giant strides in upgrading critical infrastructure at the permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai.
Ayodele said the governor’s gesture would make corps members stay memorable.
He showered the praise on the governor while addressing the 2019 Batch C stream 2 corps members deployed to Rivers state during his official visit to the camp.
Mr. Omotade appreciated governor Wike for believing in making the future of the educated graduate youths bright, interesting and worthwhile, saying that any investment in the welfare and well-being of corps members was a veritable investment to a better and more prosperous Nigeria.
He congratulated the state coordinator in Rivers state, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu, and his team for their hard work and the grace of God which made it possible for them to attract the attention of the state government towards massively investing in the upgrade of facilities at the camp.
Speaking to the corps members on the need to stay alive, the area coordinator charged them to avoid the temptation of unnecessary adventures such as unwarranted and unauthorised journeys which had led to road traffic crashes and death of corps members in the past.
He informed the corps members that they were closer to their destiny, and encouraged them to live a disciplined, upright and result-oriented lifestyle so as to safeguard their future and attain their dreams in life.
On skill acquisition on camp, Mr. Omotade advised the corps members to take various training seriously, warning that the employment situation in the country was precarious, hence the need for acquiring a skill to fall back on after the service year.
He stressed the fact that having a skill positioned them to be wealth creators rather than applicants who would be plying the streets in search of paid employment.
Earlier in his camp situation brief, Rivers state Coordinator, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu, informed the area coordinator that his administration has made modest achievements in improving facilities at the state secretariat and the orientation camp.
He listed some of his achievements to include ability to attract the state government to invest massively in the ongoing upgrade of infrastructure at the camp such as the building of the 5000 capacity amphi-theatre auditorium, reconstruction of the camp access roads, installation of a new transformer, purchase of 1500 double-bunk beds and 3000 mattresses.
Others include renovation of hostels and the multipurpose hall including tiling, drilling of a new borehole to boost water supply in the camp and the payment of N15000.00 monthly allowance to all corps members by the state government among others.
Mr. Chukwu commended the corps members for their high sense of discipline and enthusiasm to learn, especially, the skill acquisition training.
He informed the area coordinator that a total of 1306 corps members, comprising of 663 males and 643 females were registered for the stream.
Mr. Chukwu appreciated Mr. Omotade for the visit to the camp, assuring him that the morale of the corps members and camp officials have been boosted.
There was a three hearty cheers from the corps members in appreciation of Mr. Omotade’s inspiring advise and words of encouragement.
