Rivers: PDP, Obi, Atiku congratulate Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described Governor Nyesom Wike’s victory at the Rivers governorship election as victory for the people of the state and the triumph of good over evil.

PDP in statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said: “Governor Wike’s record 700,000 votes margin of victory over the disgraced combined anti-people forces of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Action Congress (AAC) and compromised security agencies speaks volume of the resilience of the people of Rivers State in the face of intimidations, harassment and manipulations by oppressive forces.

The statement read: “It also demonstrates that the will of the people will always prevail against every form of suppression as were eminently manifested in the desperation by the APC leaders, particularly, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to forcefully and violently take over control of the state against the wish of the people.

“The party salutes and venerates all compatriots who were killed by agents of the oppressors during the election.  These compatriots did not die in vain and those who shed their innocent blood will surely be brought to book.

“The PDP commends Governor Wike, the people of Rivers State and all lovers of democracy across the board for standing firm until the very end to hand this disgraceful defeat to the enemies of the people.

“The PDP congratulates all our candidates, who won their elections at all levels across the country and assures those pursuing their stolen mandates at the tribunals that the party is fully behind them, given that they all have water tight cases at the courts.”

Similarly, the vice presidential candidate of the PDP, in the February 23 Presidential Election, Peter Obi also congratulated governor Nyesom Wike and the people of Rivers state for their delayed victory, yet sweet in coming.

Obi in a statement from his media office shortly after Wike was declared winner said all lovers of democracy must salute the resilience of the people of Rivers state who stood in defence of their votes.

The statement read: “The VP candidate said that the people would not have been bigoted to Governor Wike if he had not made appreciable impact in their lives through delivery of good governance.

“He advised Governor Wike to remain focused on the delivery of democracy dividends to his people and not get distracted by the needless bickering and provocation that greeted the election.”

Also, the Presidential candidate PDP at the just concluded 2019 general elections and former vice president Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike on what he described as “hard earned re-election”.

Atiku in a statement from his media adviser, Paul Ibe stated: “Peoples Democratic Party is blessed to have a political gladiator, such as yourself, on our side. The citizens of Rivers state are fortunate to have a genuine progressive return to extend the frontiers of progress and development for them.

“And I am favoured to count you, Governor Wike, as my friend and brother, and Rivers state as my second home.

“As your victory is savoured by men of goodwill all over Nigeria, I am sure you will continue the pattern of good works for which you have become known.

“Nigeria needs men like you. Men who can remain firm, unbowed and resolute in the face of trying times. You have proved that you have character under trial, and not just when the going is good. Such refinement will stand you in good stead as, by the grace of God, you finish the good work you have started in Rivers state.”
