RMRDC, IBB varsity partner on raw materials development

The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in collaboration with Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University Lapai, Niger state are set to beef up industrial capacity utilisation of the nation’s natural raw materials to promote manufacturing of products by local industries.

Director General of the commission, Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim said the collaboration with the university is in furtherance of a partnership that is centered around scientific and technological development and utilisation of raw material resources in Niger state.

The DG stated this during a working visit by IBBU Vice Chancellor Prof.  Abu Kassim Adamu and his team to RMRDC on Wednesday in Abuja.

He further said the university as a foremost research centre, is most suited to work with the Council in the area of value addition and capacity building based on the availability of competent researchers and research facilities.

He added that the partnership would lead to the development of industrial raw materials in Niger which will ultimately improve productivity and industrial capacity utilisation of raw materials in the state by manufacturing industries in the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

Ibrahim expressed the Council’s willingness to partner with the university in the development and location deposit of some industrial raw materials such as marble, granite and gypsum which is a major raw material for the production of cement.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor IBB University Prof  Abu Kassim Adamu said the partnership would add value to the university, RMRDC and Nigeria at large. He added that one of the major areas of concentration is the location analysis and characterisation of Nigeria’s gypsum and marble deposit as raw material of various industries in Nigeria.
