Road construction: Anambra monarch exonerates Obiano over delay



The Traditional Ruler of Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA of Anambra state, HRH Igwe Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, has exonerated the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, from delay in completion of the Isuofia, Ekwulobia General Hospital- Eke Ekwulobia road, saying the contract had been paid for the work.


Onyeneke, who also dismissed social media reports that some of his subjects staged a protest against Governor Obiano over the project, said work would commence on the road fully when rain subside.


“It is an indisputable fact that the government of Anambra state led by Chief Willie Obiano has paid the Contractor handling the project and he has assured that as soon as the rains subside, the road will be completed.


“There was actually no demonstration by Ekwulobia youths. The whole story was cooked up by the opposition group in the twin. On behalf of Ekwulobia people, I regret any embarrassment caused by that story to our governor and Anambra state. The President General, Rev. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeike had properly reacted to the story in a letter to the governor,” he said.


The monarch further appealed for unity in the community, urging those in opposing sides to join hands with him and their town union executive to develop the fourth largest city in Anambra state, and remodel some of their cultural processes to protect the weak and vulnerable, rather than farming ember of disunity and hatred.
On the funeral of their Traditional Prime Minister, late Dr Gabriel Ezeukwu, who died on June 21, 2019 in Canada, Igwe Onyeneke assured that the community would accord him a befitting burial starting with a symposia, and other activities due to his numerous contributions to the peace and progress of the community.


In their separate speeches, some of his cabinet chiefs, Prof. Francis Okafor, Pharmacist Oliver Ezeobi and Chief Franklin Onyeneke said they would collaborate with the traditional ruler to reposition the community being the 4th largest city in Anambra after Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi.
