Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has said he has no plan to dump the Super Eagles but rather he wants to lead them to the next World Cup final in Qatar in 2022.
Rohr disclosed that the Super Eagles have made progress since he took charge of the team three years ago and it would be good to extend his contract when it runs out in June 2020.
Rohr and his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF recently quarreled over unpaid salaries to further raise questions over the future of the Franco-German coach.
Especially after the three-time African champions failed to reach the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in July.
“I have to work, the contract is not a problem. I think by the end of the year, I will discuss it with the FA. No distraction for me, but it’s time to have a new project to win the next AFCON.
“I start now with the AFCON qualifiers and don’t know if I will finish it but it’s not really a problem but our project must be made for at least 3 years because what we want to do is to also go to the next World Cup and also have a good philosophy too,” Rohr added.
Rohr had in the last three years led the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and third place at this year’s Africa Cup.
However, he has been criticised for working mainly with foreign-based professionals at the expense of players in the domestic league.
This week, NFF president Amaju Pinnick said Rohr has a clause on his contract which mandates him to look at players in the local league.
