The role of sports on personality development

Sports give us a perfect idea about how to react to life. There are victories in sports that are similar to the successes in life and the defeat you face in sports symbolizes what the society would call failure in life. Failure in sports teaches you to be patient and stronger and never lose hope while victory increases your confidence, happiness and respect for the opponent. Cooperation, coordination and tactful leadership are the important aspect of character and personality development which are nurtured by sports.

Sports play an important role in psychological development and the social well-being of an individual. Sports improve values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability. Sports also build character, teach and develop strategic thinking, analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking. Sports help students study better, improve concentration and so on.

According to Professor Rakesh Ghildiyal, Head of Department of Psychiatry, MGM Medical College, Navi Mumbai, Sports teach one to develop team spirit, leadership skills, fair play, never give up, focus, process and result, among others.

There are a wide variety of sports out there and if you start exploring the various types of sports, you will live a healthy and dignified life and that you enjoy life to the fullest.
