Rotary Club provides medical outreach for 500 less privilege, vulnerable

Rotary Clubs in Kaduna on Thursday organised medical outreach for 1,000 less privileged and vulnerable people in Kaduna including old people, women and children, as they were screened for various ailments and treated.

The medical outreach, which took place at the General Hospital Kawo Kaduna North LGA, saw the beneficiaries screened for HIV with counselling, hepatitis B and C, diabetes and glucose level, hypertension, eye, vitamin administration, polio immunization, deworming of children, malaria screening and treatment and distribution of insecticide treated nets and sanitary towels for girls.

The three-day medical outreach organised by Rotary Club Kaduna, Rotary Club Kawo, Rotary Club Barnawa, Rotary Club Kakuri, Rotary Club Kaduna Metro, Rotary Club Malali and Rotary Club Goningora under the Family Health Days, was sponsored by Rotary for Family Health and AIDS Prevention in collaboration with Sustainable Healthcare International and Hepatitis Zero.

According to the Kaduna state Coordinator Rotary Family Health Days, Rotarian Juliet Azubike, the programme aimed at assisting the poor, the vulnerable and the less privilege in the society to take care of their health challenges through screening, treatment and referral of serious cases to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Gwamnan Awan General Hospital Kakuri or General Hospital Kawo.
“This is a free medical programme tagged Rotary Family Health Days. It is an annual three-days programme held in General Hospital Kawo today, FRSC Clinic Tollgate on Friday and Zakari Isah Primary Healthcare Magajin Gari on Saturday.

“We are targeting between 500 and 1,000 vulnerable people. We want families that attended to know their health status, screen then for various ailments and treat them. There is a doctor on site that they can see and if there is a serious medical problem we refer them. The programme is under Rotary Focus on Maternal and Child Care.”

Also speaking, President of Rotary Club Kaduna Metropolitan, Rotarian Esther Buzum, said that the programme is targeted at people who cannot afford medical treatment or drugs. “We have so many medications for them, aged men and women, children and young girls. We expect to touch lots of people’s lives at the end of the programme.”

The Village Head of Kawo, Alhaji Muhammad Yahaya commended Kaduna Rotary Clubs for their efforts in ensuring good healthcare for the people. “We are here with Rotary Club, they are giving our people free medical services for various diseases.
“I’m very happy because most of our people with diseases don’t know where to start. So, this is a welcome development. I’m appealing to other NGOs and organisations to come to our aid on health outreach and health education.”
