President Muhammadu Buhari said Thursday that rural areas in the country are not being developed because governors steal funds meant for local governments in their states.
The President said this when he hosted members of the Senior Executive Course 44 (2022) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said the fraudulent activities of some governors in the distribution of funds meant for the management of local governments are alarming.
He said it is beyond comprehension of everyone how certain governors collect money on behalf of local governments in their states, and only to remit half of such allocation to the local government administrators who would further deplete funds.
