Russia 2018: Argentina defender Mammana ruled out

Argentina have been hit with a setback ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after centre-back, Emanuel Mammana, picked up an injury in his club, Zenit St Petersburg’s Russia Premier League clash against Rostov on Sunday which has effectively ruled him out of the mundial.
Mammana who was part of the Albiceleste’s team that lost 4-2 to the Super Eagles in an international friendly game in November 2017 went off injured in the game after just four minutes.
Incidentally, he picked up the injury while contesting the ball with Iceland star, Bergmann Sigurdason, who he had earlier expected to face at the global soccer fiesta.
According to a report in Argentine online news outlet, Ole.com.ar, test later revealed after the game that the centre-back suffered a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus of the left knee.
The injury according to the website leaves him with no chance of making it to the World Cup which is a big blow for Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli.
The South Americans will face Italy and Spain in friendly games this month.
