S/Eagles aim to qualify for AFCON in Benin – Rohr

The Super Eagles aim to qualify for the AFCON by getting the result they need on March 22 in Benin Republic, officials said.
Nigeria, who stopped Benin 2-1 in the first game in 2019, lead Group L with eight points from four matches.

Benin are second on seven points, Sierra Leone are third on three points, while Lesotho are bottom on two points.
“We are unbeaten in the qualifiers, two wins and two draws, need a point to qualify and we hope we get the result we need in Benin,” said coach Gernot Rohr.

“But Benin are a good team with good speed, have played well in the qualifiers and they are difficult to beat at home.”
Rohr said he hopes the country’s foreign-based stars will fly directly to Benin for the encounter so that the team could have more time to train together.

The Eagles final qualifier will be on March 30 against Lesotho in Lagos.
The squad for the AFCON qualifiers will be ready by the end of February.
