Sacked TETFund boss explodes: I was punished for refusing to bribe Education minister

The sacked Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Dr Abdullahi Bichi Baffa, said he was forced out of office for his refusal to provide monetary kickbacks to Minister of Education Adamu Adamu.

Baffa was sack on Monday by President Muhammadu Buhari without any known reason given.

Following Baffa’s sack, President Muhammadu Buhari replaced him with Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, who was earlier sacked from the same position in 2016.

Dr Baffa told BBC Hausa on Wednesday that Adamu Adamu sent a contractor to him demanding his share of N200bn disbursed by the agency to tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

He stated that he has never collected a dime from any of the benefitting tertiary institutions.

“If they bring any evidence indicting me, I’m ready to accept death punishment,” Mr Baffa said.

He said Adamu on several occasions, accused him of insubordination for addressing press conference without his consent.

When Blueprint reached the Deputy Director, Press, in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Benn Bem Goong through his mobile phone, to respond to the allegation, he said the official response of the ministry is “No comment”.
