Safeguard women’s fundamental rights, NAWOJ tasks govt, stakeholders

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has tasked government and stakeholders on the need for concerted and deliberate efforts towards the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

NAWOJ handed this charge in a press statement by the National President, Ladi Bala, Wednesday in Abuja, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Violence Against Women.

The President, who decried all forms of violence against women including raps, domestic violence, psychological torture and other forms of maltreatment, called on all tiers of government and stakeholders to put in place and advance measures towards safeguarding the fundamental rights of women in Nigeria.

She assured that NAWOJ would continue to join hands with relevant and critical stakeholders towards eliminating the rising and unacceptable cases of violence against women.

Speaking in this year’s theme: “Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” The association’s President stated that: “Just like the UN General Assembly’s decision to raise awareness of the fact that women around the would are subjects of violence, NAWOJ was more than ever before determined to unite and work with stakeholders to put an end to the menace against women.”
