Safety: Dangote rebrands truck drivers

As part of effort to ensure road safety, truck drivers working under the Dangote Cement Plc will now wear new look as the company launches new dress code.
The new uniform will enable the public to recognize and accord them respect.
This is one of the fallouts of the two-day retreat organized by Africa’s top cement conglomerate at the weekend.
The retreat also offered top management the opportunity to remind drivers of their responsibilities and road usage code.
The drivers were drawn from the Obajana Cement Plant in Kogi State, Ghana and Gboko Cement Plant in Benue State.
The Group Managing Director of the Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Joe Makoju said the reforms were necessary to up the performance of the transport segment of the business.
According to him, the Drivers Retreat was put together so that both management and drivers would have the opportunity of sharing ideas.
He expressed optimism that feedbacks from the retreat will help management understand the concerns of the truck drivers.
“One of the most difficult things is change.
When things are bad, there are always beneficiaries who will be resistance to change and they are in the minority.
So, we the majority must put head together and ensure that this change succeeds,” he said.
He urged the drivers to respect rules and regulations to enhance road safety.

Makoju described the drivers as partners in progress, saying the success of the company depends on them.
Speaking, Director of Logistic at the Obajana Cement Plant Mr.
Carlos Rincon described the reforms as a good development that will support efforts to bring down the rate of road crashes and sharp practices.
He said there are mobile workshops that will serve truck drivers across the country.
The Commander of Narcotics and Deputy Director at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos Mr.
Kayode Adeniyi warned drivers against dealing in drugs, saying its destroys the life of the driver and other road users.
