Sallah: Cleric urges Muslims to repent, forgive others

The Chief Imam of Jos, Sheikh Lawal Adam, has enjoined Muslims to uphold the spirit of sharing and forgiveness amongst one another for peace, security and progress of Nigeria.

He admonished Nigerians in general to repent from committing sins.

Sheikh Adam stated this in his sermon after leading a mammoth crowd of worshippers who observed the Eid-el-fitr Raka’at prayer, at the Jos Central Eid ground.

“You are enjoined to be helpful, provide food to the needy amongst you in this period of Eid-el-fitr, and beyond,” he admonished.

Sheikh Adam said as Muslims that have fasted for the period of one month, it is expected of them to uphold their righteousness and continue to practice the virtues of a good Muslims.

“We should be prayerful for the peace and progress of Nigeria. 

“People must desist from being sinful in the day of Eid, it is a special blessed day.

“A lot of bad things are happening in our country, and only repentance unto Allah will save us from the situation,” he said.

Sheikh Adam prayed for Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, state governor, Simon Lalong, and all in leadership position  seeking Allah’s guidance for them to deliver fair and just leadership.

Meanwhile, Governor Lalong, has urged Muslims to continue to live up to the tenets of their faith and allow the benefits of the just concluded fasting reflect in their character and actions. 

In a congratulatory message signed by his director of press, Dr. Makut Macham, Lalong said the current challenges Nigeria is witnessing, particularly insecurity, requires not only prayers, but commitment from all citizens to change the tide. 

He praised the people of Plateau state for supporting his administration and working for the return of peace in the state.

 Lalong called for more synergy, dialogue and engagement between people of different faiths, cultural, ethnic and political backgrounds in order to consolidate on the peace that has been fostered in the state. 

He wished all the Muslim Ummah and other Nigerians a wonderful celebration and asked them to be security conscious and remain vigilant. They are to report any suspicious activity to security agencies
