Sallah: HoS summons perm secs over failure to resume

Head of Civil Service of Bauchi state, Alhaji Liman Bello, yesterday summoned the Permanent Secretaries and Directors of over ten ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state for not resuming to their respective offices after the Eid el- Kabir (Sallah) holidays that elapsed on Monday.

He summoned the senior civil servants after he paid an unexpected visit to the Ministries on Wednesday to see for himself the level of workers turn out after the Sallah break, where he found out that most of the senior civil servants were not at offices as at 9am.

Our correspondent gathered that the Head of Service had visited the Ministries for Rural Development, Women Affairs and Child Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Works, Lands and Transport, Ministry of Youths and Sports and Information, Culture and Tourism.

Others were Ministries for Local Government Affairs, Special Duties, Justice, Commerce, Religious Affairs and Community Relations, Poverty Alleviation, as well as Special Services.

While at the Ministry of Water Resources at 8:45 am, the head of service found out that none of the messengers and principal officers, including the permanent secretary were on seat.

Similarly, Bello lamented that at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, only the overseeing Permanent Secretary, Mr. Yohanna Simon, was found on his seat while the rest of the top staff of the ministry were absent.

He expressed displeasure over the lackadaisical attitude exhibited by the civil servants to their work and directed the erring officers to report to his office “immediately.”

While calling on all government workers to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties, Bello threatened to sanction any civil servants who abscond from their duties in the future.
