Sallah: Islamic aid groups trained on traffic control

Ahead of the upcoming Sallah celebration, members of Islamic aid groups, ‘Yan Agaji’ in Bauchi were over the weekend trained on traffic control, crime management and first aid with a view to ensuring peaceful festivities.
The training which was sponsored by the General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Alhaji Bala Wunti, was attended by 100 participants drawn from various Islamic organisations.
Declaring the workshop open, the District Head of Bauchi, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba, explained that the participants were being trained in order to complement the efforts of the police, road safety and other security agents in traffic control and giving first aid to those thatmight get injuries during the festival.
Jumba, who noted that the central Eid mosque would be under his supervision on the Sallah day, said Bakaro road was designated for pedestrians and motorcyclists while motorists should ply Gombe road so as to avert accidents and or stampede while moving to and from the eid ground.
While urging the Islamic aid groups to work hand in hand with securitypersonnel, road safety and VIOs to ensure compliance, the traditional ruler also asked the women wing to maintain orderliness at the female section in the eid mosque, lamenting that there used to be commotions every year among female worshippers.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and facilitator at the workshop, Mohammed Yusuf, told the trainees that their duty ends at the eid ground while his personnel, road safety and the police would work in all the nooks and crannies of the state to ensure absolute peace and safety.
In his speech, the organiser of the training, Alhaji Bala Wunti, explained that many of the members of the Islamic aid organisations lacked knowledge on first aid and crime management, hence the idea to sponsor their training.
Represented by his staff, Rabiu Maijama’a, the NNPC GM also donatedone bag of rice to each of the participants and one piece of wrapperto female members.
