Sallah: Kogi Warns Commuters against Reckless Driving

Kogi state government has warned motorists against reckless driving on the road, decrying the occasional loss of lives and property during accidents on the axis.

The government is worried over the wave of road traffic accidents on the ever-busy Abuja-Lokoja-Okene highway especially during festivity period

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the State Governor on Transport and Logistics, Alabi Shuaibu Ojo gave the charge yesterday in Abuja.

Ojo said; “Gov. Yahaya Bello has done a lot on the Lokoja-Okene portion of that road to make it motorable for Nigerians. You would also notice the security arrangement that he has put in place on that axis and across the state.

“However, some recent accidents on this road have been caused largely by human errors and not by the state of the road. I appeal to road users to abide by all traffic regulations, avoid drunk-driving and over-speeding.

“For those who are going very far, it is better to make a stop-over in Lokoja when they are tired or if it is late. We have enough facilities to take care of them and the state is also wearing a new look now”, he said.

He said the Gov. Bello is currently working to reposition the state fire service as well as the Directorate of Road Traffic Services “as part of his robust reforms in the state transport sector”.

Ojo added that the government will continue to sensitize motorists on the dangers of over-speeding, while also collaborating with relevant state and non-state actors to ensure sanity on the roads.
