Sallah: NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel

In a bid to ensure crime free Sallah celebration, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Patrick Ukpan, has ordered 4,000 deployments of her personnel to beef up security.

A statement signed by the command’s spokesman, David Akinbinu said the personnel would be drawn from all formations of the corps in the territory, including the undercover, the conflict management unit, disaster management unit, anti vandals, and the armed squad personnel amongst others, with the special rules of engagement to be reeled out to them.

“All the nooks and crannies of the capital would be adequately covered, leaving  no place uncovered and paying special attention to some identified flash points like the market places, motor parks, fun parks, prayer grounds and borders because of high convergence of people in these areas during the period.

“Also, other areas to be beefed up are critical infrastructures in the state because of their socio-economic importance like telecommunication masts, PHCN/IBEDC cables and installations, water boards, essential government buildings, among others. 24 hours surveillance and patrol teams would be intensified in these areas.”

The statement said the command is aware of some criminally- minded people who might want to perpetrate crimes because of the busy nature of the period hence, the need to beef- up security to forestall any likely security breach.

Commandant Patrick stated further that security is everyone’s business, adding “Be vigilant, obey rules and order.”

He further said the command would open up all its communication channels and urge the public to be more vigilant and observant during the Sallah period and report any suspicious person or act of security breach to any civil defence office or security post nearest to them.
