Sand Eagles can beat Mexico, Italy, other teams – Azeez

Abu Azeez, a key part of the Nigerian Beach Soccer team, is confi dent that the Super Sand Eagles can make it past the quarterfi nals of the Beach Soccer World Cup.

Th e Sand Eagles will begin their journey to glory in Group B and will face Mexico, Italy and champions from the Asian Football Confederation in Nassau, Bahamas. zeez stated that Mexico will defi nitely not be a threat to Nigeria but accepted that the experienced Italian team is the clear favourite in the group.

“I know that the draw is a fair one for us because Mexico is coming into the tournament for the fi rst time,” Azeez told told Th eCable. “We are more experienced than Mexico. We have always been there. “Italy is the only country that I believe will be a threat to our qualifying to the quarter fi nals in the group. “Italy is a team with more experience and exposure than the Nigerian team.

Th e former Enyimba FC player said the Super Sand Eagles can excel at the championship if they prepareadequately and the players are well motivated. “But with adequate preparation ahead of the World Cup, I think we should be able to edge the Italians because of our physical style of play.

“With adequate preparation and motivation, we should be able to win the Mexican team, the Italian team and whichever team that will be in our group from Asia. “With the current squad we have unlike when Italy hosted the World Cup in Ravenna where Nigeria went with just nine players, we can surpass that quarter fi nal stage with adequate preparation. “At the moment, there’s no preparation plans on ground because the coach is yet to pass any information to the players. “We are just waiting an hoping we will start preparation soon for us to perform well in Bahamas,”Azeez said. Th e Beach Soccer World Cup will take place in Nassau, capital city of Bahamas, between April 27 and May 7. However, the team coach of the Super Sand Eagles, Audu Adamu says his team will be ready when they take on other group opponents at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in April.

Audu believes his team have enough experience. “We have defeated Mexico in the past, we know they have a strong team, we will use the experience we have gathered to face them. Even Italy, we understand how they play. Th e Offi cial Draw for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017, which will be played in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, between 27 April and 7 May 2017, took place on Tuesday at the Hotel Atlantis in Nassau. Assisting in the draw ceremony were FIFA Legend Emerson, former midfi elder for Brazil’s national football team and the Miss Bahamas Universe 2016 Cherell Williamson.
