Sanusi II emerges leader of Dhariqatul Tijjaniya Khalifa

Followers and leaders of Dhariqatul Tijjianiyya Group weekend appointed a renowned and popular Islamic scholar and cleric who was also former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Muhammadu Sanusi II as the new Caliph, Khalifa of the group in Nigeria.


The position was previously held by the former First Bank Managing Director, CBN Governor and Emir of Kano, Dr. Sanusi Lamido’s grandfather, the late Emir of Kano, Khalifa Sheikh Muhammadu Sanusi I before it was later held by a late business mogul and Islamic Preacher, Alhaji Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu.
Since the demise of late Alhaji Rabiu in 2018, the group has not been able to appoint a successor until when the grandson, Sanusi II of the first Khalifa, was unanimously appointed weekend.


It was also gathered that the Sanusi’s appointment and turbaning as the new leader was performed by Sheikh Makki Nyass, grandson of Shehu Ibrahim Nyass, during the annual Maulud festival in Sokoto to mark the birthday (Maolud) of the popular world Islamic leader and distinguished clergyman and reformer known as Shehul Islam (Sheikh of Islam). He is generally known and addressed as Gausun Zamani, the late Sheikh Ibrahim Abdullahi Nyass, Kaulaha, Senegal.


The Dhariqatul Tijjianiyya Group Maulud was organized and spearheaded by the special guest of honour, Majma’u Ahbab Rasul Li Shehu Nyass, Alhaji Dahiru Abubakar and Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi who prayed for peace, unity, stability of Nigeria and improved national economy. They also prayed against insecurity, banditry, kidnapping and other worrisome crimes in Nigeria, Africa and the world over.


Calling on the Muslim community to always commit their lives to the service of God Almighty honestly , Sheikh Abubakar noted that the event was held to give glory to God for giving the Muslim Ummah Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to teach us Islam, for giving the Dhariqatul Tijjaniyya Group, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Fass Mororroco (RTA) who brought the Dhariqa Tijaniyya and to honour the successor of late Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Fass in person of Shehul Islam, Sheikh Ibrahim Abdullahi Nyass, who dedicated all his life to the service of Islam and humanity.


He said: “The essence of the celebration is to further cement the existing mutual relationship of the adherents of Sheikh Ahmadu Tijjiani all over the world, to help immortalise and commemorate the legacies, and teachings of the Sheikh and to pray for peaceful coexistence of the entire world.”


Dignitaries from all parts of the country, Africa and the world where prominent Islamic scholars, clerics and preachers from Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Algeria, Mail, Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Senegal, Saudia, Cameroon, United States of America, United Kingdom (UK), Mali, Egypt and other European countries also graced the Maulud.


Highlights of the ocassion included recitation of Quran, Hadiths, Diwani, history and lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), photographs and prayers among others.
