Sanwo-Olu flags off 2019 Christian pilgrimage to Israel, Rome

Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Sunday flagged off this year’s Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Rome at the Chapel of Christ the Light Church, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to a statement issued by the NCPC’s head of media, Celestine Toruka, in Abuja, the governor congratulated the state’s intending pilgrims for their “bold initiative” to embark on Holy pilgrimage to strengthen their faith in the Lord.

Sanwo-Olu also the leadership of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) for choosing Lagos state for this year’s general pilgrimage exercise and gave the assurance that by next year, the state would “surpass the record of this year in terms of pilgrimage support and development.”

He urged the intending pilgrims to thank God for considering them worthy to re-examine their lives, saying, “It is an opportunity for you to increase your faith and it will be an opportunity to fellowship with other Christians”

In her welcome address, NCPC’s acting executive secretary, Mrs. Esther Kwaghe, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for approving all the commission’s requests for this year’s general pilgrimage.

Mrs. Kwaghe said the commission had put in place all necessary arrangements for a hitch-free pilgrimage exercise this year, stressing that the commission would “continue to strive to achieve zero abscondment.”

She, therefore, urged the intending pilgrims to resist the temptation of absconding during the pilgrimage and commended the Lagos state government for “allowing the commission to host this year’s flag-off in the state.”

Also speaking, the NCPC chairman, Rev. Yomi Kasali, said “this is the official flag- off ceremony of the 2019 general pilgrimage from Lagos state.”

He thanked the governor for his support, describing Lagos as “one of the leading states in terms of pilgrimage support.”

“Let’s us project Nigeria positively; we should be good citizens of Nigeria,” he said, charging them to “project Nigeria well abroad and at all times.”
