Sanwo-Olu’s commissioner addresses protesters, commends NLC leadership

Lagos state commissioner of Establishment, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponle, on Tuesday commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) leadership over the peaceful conduct of Tuesday’s protest.

NLC had on Monday called on members and civil society groups in Lagos State to come out en-masse on Tuesday morning to begin the two-day protest in solidarity with striking lecturers.

Mrs. Funmi Sessi, Lagos state chairman of NLC gave the directive at a stakeholders’ meeting at the union’s secretariat in Yaba, Lagos state.

Sessi said the exercise was ready to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the nationwide action.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was not available to address members of NLC and other youths who staged a protest to the secretariat in Alausa.

Mrs Ajibola Ponle, who represented the governor and received the letter prepared for the governor by NLC, said Sanwo-Olu was out of the state to attend to other important assignments.

She noted that Sanwo-Olu is a listening governor and will definitely convey the letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ponle however thanked the NLC for ensuring the protest was peaceful.

The Labour union had staged a protest over ASUU strike.
