Saturday’s poll: Police pull out copter, deploy military jet to Kwara

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly elections, Kwara state police command said that it would deploy military jet to ensure effective surveillance of the state.

The command had deployed a Nigerian Air force helicopter during last presidential and national assembly elections under an operation code name “safe conduct”.

The state commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun disclosed  this Thursday while addressing a joint security press conference in Ilorin ahead of the polls.

The CP who was flanked by heads of other security agencies in the state, said the military jet would perform surveillance operation better than using ordinary air craft.

The police boss urged residents of the state not to panic over the hovering of the military jet around their communities during the coming elections.

He said that the aim was to ensure adequate security of electorates and prevent crime.

Mr Egbetokun advised the people of the state to ensure strict compliance with restrictions of movement from 6:00am to 6:00pm on the election day.

He also said the command would comb all criminal hide out to make the state safe and secured.

The CP stated that the command was committed to ensuring adequate security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.
