School proprietors task FG on education foundation

Prominent school proprietors have called on the federal government to make the nation’s education system more functional.
The stakeholders included Dr. Abdul Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, son of former Prime Minister and wife of former Vice President, Mrs.
Titi Abubakar, among others, made the call in their separate remarks at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Olumawu School in Wuse 11, Abuja.
They also admonished school leavers in the country to chase their respective dreams and not money in making the required difference in the larger society.
Tafawa Balewa in his submission said: “As a way of repositioning education as catalyst for national development, there is the need for the federal government to make it more functional through required curricular”.
According to him, since education is for self discovery, curriculum planners and policy makers needed to come up with a model that would, practically, take care of emerging realities across the globe.
“The Malaysian or Finland platform can be very useful in this direction by our curriculum designers because we need to give a rebirth to our system of education as practically being offered here in Olumawu Schools, where pupils are made to be creative and skillful.
“Education has really gone down in Nigeria.
We need to get it back on its feet.
If we don’t, we will not have the right kind of people to lead Nigeria in the right direction”, he stressed.
In her remarks, Mrs. Abubakar, represented by Mrs., M.O Sanusi , said for the nation to level up with other developed countries, her education system must be overhauled and repositioned along the route of creativity and technological innovations .

Dike Chukwumerije, who was the Guest Speaker at the ceremony, admonished the graduands to always put God first, dream big , chase their dreams and not money .
