SCI advocates exclusive breastfeeding

The Save the Children International in collaboration with UKAID and development grant programme an NGO, has today flagged off the World Breastfeeding Week in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state through enlightening over 200 nursing mothers on the significant of exclusive breastfeeding to their new born babies.
Speaking earlier, the Save the Children International, Tsafe local government supervisor, Nura Nahuche said the theme of this year’s programme is Breastfeeding Foundation of Life.
He said the cardinal objectives of World Breast Feeding Week was to inform, anchor, engage and galvanise the benefiting nursing mothers on the significance of exclusive breastfeeding to infants for them to have healthy children.
He also called on mothers to ensure hygiene during breastfeeding through implementing hand washing and cleaning of their breast before feeding.
In her address, the local government food and nutrition committee, Malama Halima Maiwada, advocated for regular exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers, advising them to eat well before breastfeeding, to avoid malnutrition among their children.
In her contribution, the beneficiary, Malama Hafsat Muhammad Bawa commended the Save the Children International for its campaign drive on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers as well as cash transfer scheme introduced by the NGO to women She saidthe cash transfer scheme had contributed immensely towards helping mothers to have healthy children, stressing that it also helped to address malnutrition among nursing mothers and their newborn babies.
