Science Expo platform ’ll create job, eradicate poverty – Onu

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the annual Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo aims to showcase creative ideas, create wealth, and eradicate poverty.

Onu stated this during a press briefing, facility tour and inspection of the venue in preparation for Expo 2021.

“The inventors will come and showcase to Nigeria and the world the level of creativity we have always had as a nation. We all know that since 2016 the Innovation Expo has been an annual event since 2016 till date. The Innovation Expo has been an annual event till date is the sixth edition of this technology and innovation expo.

“This expo is unique and is very important for the economics of our nation because it is a unique platform that brings together our scientists, our researchers, our inventors, our innovators, with investors. Everybody coming together to know the work that is going on whether in our Universities, Research Institute, Polytechnics, Secondary schools, and even in our formal sector where we have a lot of hidden talents who have come up with creative inventions and innovations,” the FMST boss added.

According to him, the essence of the expo is to explore ways that research findings can be commercialized. “If you do research and leave it on the shelf, they will have very little impacts on the economy of the nation but once you is able to turn your research findings into products that we need as a people that we import from outside, we will be helping the economy of our nation in so many ways.”

He further noted that the most important thing is to ensure that there would be availability of job opportunities for young and old being very important to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He added that “all necessary measures for the covid 19 protocols will be duly observed critically because “we want every participant, and everyone presents on ground to be saved.”

The sixth edition of the expo is scheduled from Monday March 15 to Friday 19.
