Scores trapped in Kano building collapse

Tragedy struck, Tuesday, at the famous GSM Market located on the ever sprawling Beruite road in Kano, following the sudden collapse of a 3-storey building which collapsed at exactly 330pm.

According to eye witness account, the building accommodating hundreds of traders in various shops within it, suddenly came down without premonition, sending shivers down the spines of those domiciling within its premises.

The tragedy, according to our correspondent, appears to have taken a disastrous toll on those trapped under the rubbles, waiting to be rescued with GSM accessories worth millions of Naira lost to the disaster.

Although no official confirmation about the exact number of those who lost their lives, an eye witness told our correspondent that he publicly saw some corpses being pulled out of the collapsed building while the premises was cordoned off to prevent looting by some undesirable elements.

Shedding more light on the effort made by the Kano State Fire Service in rescuing some of the trapped victims, spokesman of the agency, Malam Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi told reporters that seven people who had sustained various degree of injury had been rushed to the hospital for prompt medical attention.

Speaking on the tragedy, a trader in the market, Anas Abubakar, said he was deeply touched by the disaster as it happened without any early warning.
