SDGs empowers Edo farmers with N36m grant

As part of efforts to boost agriculture and enhance food security, the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has empowered 400 farmers in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state with cash grants of N36 million.

The beneficiaries, who were drawn from  five wards namely; Abiokunla-1, Iyoba, Ugboko, Urhonigbe-South and Igbanke East were handed N90,000 each.

Speaking at the event, Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, adding that the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme is therefore critical to our overall poverty eradication plan.

The governor, who was represented by the member representing Orhionmwon South at the State Assembly also said: “this first phase, we targeted the poor and vulnerable households in the five selected LGAs in the state.” 

“While appreciating the federal government for its contribution to the laudable programme, the governor reassured that his administration is committed to the welfare of Edo people.”

Earlier, chairman of  the local government,  Hon. Sylvester Okoro, congratulated the beneficiaries and enjoined them to take the scheme seriously.

He lauded the governor for “the numbers of developmental programmes and projects he has extended to the local government  and listed the projects to include,  “construction of Abudu Central Road bridge, ongoing construction of Benin-Abraka road  among others.
