Secure lives not re-election, PFN tells Buhari

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to give more attention to protection of lives than his re-election campaigns.

The Christian group said, “any government that cannot protect lives and property does not deserve to remain in office.”

National President of PFN, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, in a press statement, condemned the massacre of over 100 persons by suspected herdsmen in Plateau and Zamfara states.

According to Omobude, “President Muhammadu Buhari should immediately bring the mindless killings going on in the country to a halt because Nigerian life, whether of Christian or Moslem, is very important. The perpetrators of these dastardly acts must be fished out and punished appropriately.

The cleric further called on the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rise up and fulfill one of their major campaign promises of securing the lives of Nigerians, adding that actions are better than mere assurances.

“There is need for our government and security forces to be proactive instead of reactionary. They should learn to be on top of the situation by acting before the criminals strike. Besides, there is need for an urgent review of the nation’s security apparatus so as to make it more effective,” Omobude said.
