Security: APC gov aspirant advocates increased funding

A governorship aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa state CP Diseye Nsirim-Poweigha (retd.) has called on the federal government to release more funds to security agencies to keep the nation safe.

Nsirim-Poweigba, who was the first female governorship aspirant to obtain the APC nomination and expression of interest form to contest the August 29, 2019, governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state, said government must put more money into the security architecture.

The aspirant, who said it is only a secured environment that can attract investment, decried the fact that communication system in Bayelsa state had completely broken down, making it difficult for security personnel to effectively communicate with each other.

Addressing journalists at the national secretariat of APC, Friday, after obtaining the form, the retired CP said the entire Bayelsa state has only two major roads, a situation she said was not good enough.

She said, “Our youths have now become kidnappers because they don’t have work to do since the government in place has not provided any for them. Bayelsa has a lot of mineral resources which has been left untapped.

“We do not have a good housing system. Everybody is struggling to get houses for themselves. Give us a chance to make the difference in Bayelsa. A situation of saying women cannot rule Nigeria should not be allowed to continue because we have seen women serving as great leaders in other parts of the world.

“When we come to power, we will work with the security agencies to address the security situation in the state because without security, there will be no investment or industries in the state. It is a shame that with all its resources, there are no industries in the state.

“It is not what you have in terms of political experience that matters or that will bring you to power. Government need to put more money into the security apparatus of the state. Whether state or federal police, what is needed is adequate funding.”
