Security guards protest sack notice in NPDC

Workers of the Nigerian Petroleum and Depots Company (NPDC) yesterday appealed against the plan to disengage them before the end of this year.
The workers who are mainly security guards employed by the security providers for NPDC all over the country are said to be affected by the sack notice They appealed to the federal government to immediately intervene on the matter so as to save the over two million youths listed for the exercise nationwide from losing their jobs.
Some of the guards attached to Minna, Sarkin Pawa and Suleja depots raised the alarm after receiving verbal notice from their employers that they would be disengaged before the end of the year. The group who pleaded for anonymity and alleged that they have served the security providers for over ten years and never had any problem or found wanting in the course of discharging their duties.
According to them, the verbal notice of their disengagement was dropped at different dates by their employers, adding that they formed a formidable team to find out the rationale behind the action and discovered that it is the policy of the new management.
They said the newly appointed Chief Executive of NPDC has introduced new criteria for security providers to show evidence of having N30 million fixed in their Union Bank account before been engaged by the management.
The criteria, according to them, was too harsh as only the wealthy individuals can meet up such criteria adding that as young entrepreneurs it was unrealistic to demand for evidence of fixed deposit of N30 million before been reengaged by NPDC.
