The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with PCNI has distributed food and other items to the displaced people of Baga, Doron Baga, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Guzamala, Matte and Monguno.
They were displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency last week
Flagging off the distribution of the relief materials in Monguno town, Friday and Gajiram town on Saturday respectively, Governor Kashim Shettima’ commiserated with the people and urged them to
continue to pray for lasting peace in the state and the country at large.
He appealed to the people to consider the attacks and insurgency as an act of God and assured them that with prayers, the insurgency will soon come to an end.
The governor stressed the need for cooperation, unity and understanding with the government to serve them better while assuring that, governments will continue to do everything possible to relief
their sufferings and hardships within the resources of the state government.
He also pledged that Borno state government will Construct 2000 houses to accommodate the IDPs from Baga, Doron Baga, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Marte, Guzamala, Abadam and Monguno that have been displaced by the insurgency.
Governor Shettima’ while also inspected some capital projects like schools , hospitals and houses under construction in Monguno, Mairari, Gajiram and Gajiganna towns located along the stretch of
130 kilometers Mongnuo- Maiduguri road .
He directed the contractors handling Mongnuo 3 mega school to collect N10 million to complete the school, train teachers on KAYAN and ensure the school is ready for commissioning next month. They are to produce uniforms, procure school bags and sandals or shoes for the pupils for onward distribution to the children free of charge
Earlier, the Executive Chairman, SEMA, Borno state, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said following the displacement of people of Baga, Doron Baga, Cross Kauwa and other councils in the northern Borno and their movements to Monguno town for safety recently, Governor Shettima’ directed SEMA to immediately provide food and non food items to the new IDPs who are about 5000.
She added that so far 30 trucks of food and non food items have been delivered to Monguno while 5 trucks with collaboration with PCNI have been delivered to Gajiram Town, Nganzai council for the old and new IDPs who were chased from surrounding villages to Gajiram town, the headquarters of the Nganzai council.
Yabawa said the total number of beneficiaries targeted was 6000 from the 4 councils of Matte, Kukawa, Guzamala and Monguno who communal feeding system has been introduced for them due to the emergency nature of their conditions unlike the usual household feeding system where food and non food items are being distributed to the IDPs based on family size and on house to house basis for transparency and accountability.
