Senate invasion: Nobody can terrorise us – Dogara

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has declared that the National Assembly as an institution “cannot allow anyone, no matter how highly place to terrorise” its members. He also said the silence of the nation’s Security Chiefs since the incident, last week, “speaks volumes,” adding that “those who always gang up against the institution of the federal parliament have on records, been rejected by the selection processes.”

This was even as the House resolved to raise a special committee to liaise with one of its Senate counterpart, to independently investigate the matter with a view to ascertaining those behind the incident which was widely condemned as a threat to the country’s democracy. Armed thugs led by a suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, last Wednesday invaded the Senate chamber and seized the symbol of authority (the Mace) of the upper house of the National Assembly, creating pandemonium in the parliament.

His reaction was as a result of a point of order by Chief Whip of the House, Ado Doguwa, urging the Lower Chamber to set up Ad-hoc committee alongside the Senate committee to probe the incident. Reacting to the incident, Dogara said: “There is no amount of anger that should allow any lawmaker to attack the institution.

I think National Assembly is more secured compare to court which is open to all and if they can attacked us nothing will stop the thugs from attacking the judiciary and the judges, so given that order to prevent any forward arrest is something they should have a rethink on. “We cannot allow this trend to continue. An attack on the legislature is an attack on Buhari’s government. Anyone who takes sides by those in government to attack another arm of government should be made to face the music.”
