The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has thrown its weight behind the aspiration of Senator Osita Izunaso for the office of the President of the Senate.
National President of the NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, who gave the position of the union, described Izunaso as the best among the senators vying for the coveted position.
Isiguzo while receiving Senator Izunaso on a courtesy call to the National Secretariat of NUJ in Abuja, Saturday, declared that after a careful analysis of all the contenders, the lawmaker was found to be the best in competence, experience, capacity and integrity.
Emphasising integrity, the NUJ president noted that what the National Assembly required at this moment was a clean break from its odious past reputed for corruption and poor image.
According to him, “Senator Izunaso, an outstanding journalist, brilliant lawyer and a man of integrity and high capacity will rebrand the National Assembly and give the Legislature and the country a better image.”
He therefore called on all the senators-elect to do the right thing and vote for Izunaso as the next President of the Senate.
For journalists, Mr Isiguzo said, the Imo West senator would fully enjoy the total support of the men of the pen while seeking the position now and when he becomes the number three man by hierarchy.
In his speech, Izunaso recalled that his experiences as a journalist, staff of the national assembly, and elected member of the House of Representatives and senator respectively had placed him high and above other contestants and solicited the support of the NUJ for his aspiration.
