Senate President to flag off 2020 Anti-Corruption marathon race in Abuja


Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan is expected to flag off this year National Anti Corruption Marathon Race in Abuja
The race is slated for December 9 is in commemoration of United Nations International Anti Corruption day.
Making the disclosure Thursday in Abuja, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Grassroots director, Dr. Ademola Are when top echelons officials of the marathon and Sports ministry paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Hon.Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba to seek for collaboration and partnership towards the fast approaching race.


Dr.Are disclosed that “the role of ministry of Education is important in the fight against corruption. If we can lets our youths in all our schools know the danger of corruption it will go a long way to help the nation. We need to use the schools to create the necessary awareness”.


The Anti Corruption body also requested for technical assistance and the physical presence of the top ministry of Education officials during the December 9 flag off of the race.


The Minister of State for Education, Hon. Nwajiuba gave the assurance of the ministry towards supporting the race that’ is getting acclaimed by many Nigerians.
Speaking also at the event, Mr Jacob Onu, the National Coordinator of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon Race, said the race which would hold simultaneously with the United Nations (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 was designed to create awareness on this present government of President Buhari fight against corruption.


“The fight against corruption is not a one off battle, rather a continuous one that requires perseverance and endurance; this is the reason behind the initiative.
“The marathon race is symbolic in that without perseverance and endurance one can’t start and finish a marathon race. This initiative happens to be the first globally.
“Just as President Buhari was vocal when he said that ‘if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill us’, ours is to create more and more awareness on the dangers of corruption to the existence of our citizens, especially the youth.
