Senator Akwashiki wins in Tribunal

The National Assembly and state election petition tribunal holding in Lafia, Friday, dismissed the case filed by Mr John Mike-Abdul of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election of Senator Godiya Akwashiki on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general election.

Member of the three man panel of the tribunal, Mrs Iboro Ukpanah, who read the judgement while dismissing the case in Lafia said that the petitioner case lacks merit.

She also said that the petitioner failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.

The panel member further said that the evidence brought before the tribunal by the petitioner are not admissible in the eye of the law.

Speaking to journalists Counsel to the lawmaker, Oludare Akanbi said: “It is victory for democracy and for the electorate, who voted massively for Senator Godiya Akwashiki during the election.”

INEC, on February 27, declared Akwashili, winner of the election having scored 54,104 votes to defeat his closest opponent Mike-Abdul, who pulled 48, 133 votes.
