Senator Shehu Sani: Antics of a politician

He surprised many people by his non defection as some of his colleagues did by defecting to opposition parties like the PDP, ADC and SDP.
His lame excuse that he was prevailed upon to stay by some notable people such like Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, does not hold water.
Senator Shehu Sani, from his conduct during the gale of defections that rocked his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has demonstrated how hypocritical he was and can no longer be held in high esteem by any serious minded person.
But the former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, has disputed the claim by Senator Sani, saying that he did not tell him not to leave the APC but rather stay until events fully unfold.
The mistake made and ultimately may consume senator is that Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state may not give him the space to fully play his politics in spite of the fact that he is a man of the masses and has intent to pursue his second term.
There will probably be no reconciliation between the distinguished senator and the governor, who is now controlling the APC in Kaduna.
If Senator Shehu Sani fully knows that he has any personal political value, he cannot be dilly dallying about his political future in his quest to bid for a second term as a senator.
He could have toed the path of Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, who has already defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The antics of Governor Nasir el-Rufai is quite known to people, and that is to hurt his benefactor.
He has done that to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was instrumental to his first appointment in the present political dispensation as the Director-General of Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who appointed him the Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He did not spare even President Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the PDP holding the forte as FCT minister.
He told the world that Buhari was not fit to be President.
But today, due to his double speak, he is parading himself as the a die-hard Buharist over and above those who conscripted President Buhari into politics.
Hypocrisy is the bane of the Nigerian politics.
As such, one is not surprised about the U-turn made by Governor el-Rufai as a Buharist.
The subscription by Senator Shehu Sani that he was prevailed upon to stay put in APC by some elders and his belief that the APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, may right the wrongs and reconcile the warring foes in the states that have aggrieved members does not hold water in a place like Kaduna state.
A politician that has personal political value does not mind to defect to another political party.
But the way Senator Shehu Sani is doing clearly shows that he has no such value and that is why he wants to be reconciled with el-Rufai so that he may given APC ticket for a second term.
And from the attitude, statements of Governor Nasir in recent days, this may not be possible.
This is because the governor, from his disposition, is a very difficult person to open the gate of reconciliation.
With the way things are going on Kaduna state coupled with the disposition of el-Rufai, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Senator Sani in his bid for second term under the APC.
No doubt, Senator Sani is a first class activist, and has faced a lot of challenges, especially under the military administration where on one occasion he was even framed up in a phantom coup and was incarcerated together with Obasanjo at Jos prison and his open disagreement with the governor Nasir El-Rufai cannot make it possible to have a place in the party in 2019.
Let Senator Sani realise the fact that there would be no genuine reconciliation between him and Governor el-Rufai based on the recent statements credited to the governor on the three senators from Kaduna state.
It is imperative for Shehu Sani to know his position before it is too late.
