Senator washes hands off impeachment plots against Buhari, Lawan

The Chairman Senate Committee on information and National Orientation, Senator Danladi Sankara (APC Jigawa North West), has dissociated himself from alleged plot by some senators to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari and possibly the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

In a statement in Abuja Saturday Senator Sankara refuted an online news linking him to the alleged plots, saying “at no time was I consulted or coopted into such plan by anybody in the Senate.”

He said It was just the figment of imagination of the online publications and the others who are linking him to such a move.

“I was present throughout plennary sessions of last Tuesday and Wednesday, nobody approached me or sought my consent to join any move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari or Senate President, Ahmad Lawan,” he said.

He added that what is required at this time is maturity and understanding of leaders and people to ensure that Nigeria overcome the challenges of insecurity and economic downturn.

“it is very important for leaders to explore workable methods to address the issues of insecurity . It is not proper for us to further heat up the polity when we should put heads together to explore workable solutions to the issues of the economy and insecurity.

“It is a collective responsibility on the part of the leaders and the people,” he said.

Senators across the various opposition parties had on Wednesday issued six weeks ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari to shape up or ship out as far as the worsening security situation in the country is concerned .

They specifically threatened to commence impeachment proceedings against him if the security problems were not addressed within the six weeks ultimatum.

The minority caucus in the House of Representatives also joined them on Thursday in carrying out the threat.
