Senegal players in tears after FIFA U17 World Cup exit

Senegal, Africa’s last team in the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Brazil, were sent home by Spain on Wednesday, joining at the exit door, Nigeria and Angola.

Some of the young Teranga Lions found the defeat too bitter to swallow and burst into tears.

The Spaniards prevailed 2-1 in their Round of 16 tie, leaning as FIFA.com reported on an imposing start to see out the victory.

The Spaniards dominated the pace of the game during the opening period in Goiania and were rewarded with a goal, coming via brilliant combination play between Pablo Moreno and Roberto Navarro in the 27th minute. German Valera’s solo effort doubled La Rojita’s advantage in the 59th minute.

Senegal made a match of it late, but the India 2017 runners-up will move onto the quarter-finals at Brazil 2019, where they’ll face France, who beat Australia 4-0.
