Service chiefs should uphold dignity

The lowest point that a general could descend to is when the civilian populace lambasts him for gross military incompetence in the face of small-league military opposition besting what this hapless general can throw at them.
During the Vietnam War, one such hapless general was Orlinto Bassanto, whose name has continued to live in infamy.
This is why I am worried that the present corps of service chiefs serving overtime under President Muhammadu Buhari during his first term is being pilloried left, right, and centre by the civilian population to the effect that they are new, being accused of encouraging armed invading hordes to come hither and sack settled rural agrarian communities.
In soldiering, legacies are veritable texts by which the young officer and other ranks corps are groomed.
It is simply not allowed that the doyen of the service chiefs, in this case the Chief of Army Staff, would go round and do a political tour whilst echoing the politicians’ mantra that inauguration of opengrazing prohibition laws were the spurs that got murderous cattlemen so miffed to go on killing spree.
Imagine a country’s foremost general trivialising foreign invasion incidence.
Isn’t Nigeria’s military losing its commitment to the motto of “honour and valour?” Let us even add “conscience” for good measure.
