@Service of songs: Dan and I had close shave with death – TY Danjuma

It was a night of tributes for Late Air Commodore Dan Suleiman as prominent Nigerians attested to his worthy lifestyle during service of songs and commendation service held in his honour on Wednesday night.

Dan Suleman, who died on February 1 in Abuja, was Military Governor of Plateau state from March 1976 to July 1978, a founding member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and also a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on his lifetime, former governor of Anambra state and Leader Igbo Elders Consultative Forum, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said Late Air Commodore Dan Suleiman lived a life worthy of emulation and lamented he didn’t live long enough to witness the result of his efforts.

“He is in heaven right now. There is no doubt about that. He lived for 80 years. We would have loved him to live for more than 120 years. We would have loved him to stay even for 6 six months to see the result of some of his efforts, but God knows best. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace,” he said.

Also speaking, retired Nigerian army Lieutenant General TY Danjuma said he is distressed that Dan died before him, despite being a younger friend and an associate.

He said: “Dan was younger than me. I am a traditional man. By my culture, he is supposed to be the one to bury me, not me burying him. I am not supposed to be here, but I had to make an exception because he was a good man. We had close shave with death together.

“I always told him not to die before me, but it has happened. So, I decided to show my face here and quietly talk to the family before going back to Lagos where I am based. Quite a number of speakers before me have paid glowing tributes to Daniel and there is nothing else to add.”
