The National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM has called for commitment, ownership and support of the management of Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the service delivery initiatives of the federal government of Nigeria.
This call was made when the National Coordinator paid an advocacy visit to the commission to inaugurate and induct the Ministerial SERVICOM Committee (MSC) of the Police Service Commission in Abuja.
While speaking, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli noted that the principal purpose of the visit is to solicit Ownership/Management support for Service Delivery Initiative (SDI) in the police Service Commission and also to formulate a Service Charter which would outline client’s rights and responsibilities including feedback and available complaint mechanisms, and then Training/Sensitization on all aspects of Service Delivery that are citizens focused.
According to the press release issued by the Public Awareness Manager, Henrietta Okokon (Mrs) that citizens are more aware of their rights and they have better access to information on public services and consequently have higher expectations of quality service.
Furthermore, the Coordinator made it known to the Management that the success of the service delivery initiative in the Commission rests on the shoulders of the leadership of the Commission, hence the need for a total buy-in by the Senior Management.
She appealed to the Management of the Commission to provide the necessary resources needed to the Unit/Committee to enable it function effectively, and while making sure that the SERVICOM Committee meets at least once a month in other to discuss Service Delivery Challenges and make recommendations to the Management for Improving Services.
In her words, ‘’ the SERVICOM Office believes that if these areas are implemented, the Commission and its SERVICOM Unit/Committee will be repositioned to function optimally thereby ensuring effective and efficient service delivery’’ she added.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Musiliu A.K Smith IGP (Rtd.), commended the SERVICOM Team for the onerous efforts put in by them to restore sanity in the Service Delivery processes of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Chairman assured the SERVICOM Boss, that the Police Service Commission is poised to support the relentless efforts of the SERVICOM Team by ensuring it delivers efficient service delivery that are citizens-centered to Nigerians.
The Permanent Secretary to the Commission Mr. Ismaila Abubakar at the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial committee urged the committee members to be honest and hardworking and to be loyal public servants in order to change the general perception of the civil service out there.
Mr. Ismaila reiterated that it was the commission’s pleasure to hold the inauguration at a time like this. ‘’It is our sincere hope that this Ministerial Committee, with the necessary support from management, would meet our expectations and deliver optimally on its onerous mandate. Furthermore, the Commission is confident that its Service Charter will soon be reviewed and published’’ he said.
