SERVICOM poised to improve services – NHRC

Acting Executive Secretary of the National Human Right Commission (NHRC), Dr Tony Okonkwo, has said the Commission had brought to limelight an effective department of SERVICOM to improve its services for citizens.
He stated this at the “Validation of NHRC Service Charter and Sensitisation Programme” on Monday in Abuja.
Okonkwo’s speech was delivered by a staff of the commission, Ngozi Okorie. According to him the programme was aimed at enforcing members of its staff to carry out their full responsibility religiously to the general public, adding that there is a nexus between NHRC and SERVICOM.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeni, said the feedback from the streets “shows there are huge expectations on the Commission’s responsibility.”
“We should work as a team to bring a good service remark by tackling the issue of investigation in prison cells, prison congestion, poor feeding, and inadequate clothing. Calling to attention of NHRC to this and many more because these citizens have constitutional rights to be observed,” she said.
Also speaking, the Director, Reforms Coordination and Services Improvement at NHRC, Hajiya Hussaina Habib Aliyu, and Coordinator of the programme, said the programme was to sensitise the general public on the aims and objectives of the Commission “on the importance of public awareness on how to claim their fundamental human rights In accordance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
“Everyone is equal before the Law, regardless of culture, tribe, ethnicity, religion. The very basic standard of living should be given to every citizen of this country.”
