Sex scandal: UniLag asks Linda Ikeji to help protect its image

The vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, (UniLag) Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has again asked a popular blogger, Linda Ikeji, to assist the university’s investigative committee on the sexual harassment allegation involving Prof. Olusegun Awonusi of the English department.

The VC asked the blogger to help UniLag to produce the student who accused the lecturer of sexual harassment if she truly cared about the image of the university she graduated from.

In May 2018, Ms Ikeji’s blog published the sexual allegation by Joy Nwanna accussing Prof Awonusi of sexually harassing her in his office.

The student also released some nude pictures of the lecturer which were published on Ms Ikeji’s blog.

Meanwhile, in a bid to investigate the sexual allegation, UniLag management had earlier appealed to Ms Ikeji to help the institution in its investigative efforts since Nwana has not come out to defend her case.

The VC said the allegation had subjected UniLag to public ridicule, adding that staff and members of the university community were embarrassed by the development.

Ogundipe also said the presence of the accuser is needed to help the fact-finding panel to investigate the allegation.

VC noted that Joy Nwanna, a former student of the English department, was said to be admitted into 200 level through direct entry in 2012/2013 academic session and graduated in 2015/2016 session.
