Shehu Sani demands cancellation of presidential, NASS elections in Kaduna

People’s Redemption Party (PRP) senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central senatorial zone, Senator Shehu Sani on Monday called for the cancellation of last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, citing irregularities.

This is just as PRP House of Representatives candidate for Kaduna North federal constituency, Malam Kassim Balarabe Musa, speaking on behalf of the party, also called for the elections to be cancelled because of the irregularities noticed by the party.

Addressing the media in Kaduna on Monday, the incumbent Senator Sani said the integrity of Saturday elections were undermined by cases of over voting noticed in many polling units, harassment of voters and massive thumbprinting, replacement of trained INEC ad-hoc staffs, allocation of figures and vote buying among others.

According to Shehu Sani, “though violence and thuggery was reduced from what was expected, four things undermined the integrity of the presidential and National Assembly elections especially National Assembly elections in Kaduna state. Card reader malfunctioned in a number of local governments and PVC was not  used.

“There were cases of over voting in many polling units in the state, where the number of actual voters were more than the number of registered voters. There was no serious scrutiny of voters to know if the owners of the PVC were those that came to vote.

“In Giwa local government, some of the officials that conducted the election were not the ones that were trained by INEC for the election, they were replaced by the local government chairman. In Birnin Gwari, there was harassment of voters and thumb printing  of ballot papers.

“In Igabi, there was outright allocation of figures by the ruling party, 90% of the votes cast for the ruling party were due to financial inducement.

“PRP has forwarded preliminary letter to INEC demanding the cancellation of National Assembly elections in Kaduna state. INEC has limited ballot papers in some polling units, lost ballot papers and election did not start in some areas in the Southern part of the river until 7pm. But delivery of election materials in the Northern parts were prompt compared to the Southern parts.

“If these issues are not taken seriously, we will take next step including legal actions because there was falsification of figures and manipulation of results,” Shehu Sani stated.

Explaining the need for the elections to be cancelled, Kassim Balarabe Musa alleged that the presidential and National Assembly elections in Kaduna state are marred by votes buying, card readers malfunctioning, usage of unknown persons PVC for voting.

He said legal action would be taken against those involved in the malpractices in the state, with evidences staring on their faces.
